We're passionate about celebrating local artists who inspire us with their creativity and connection to the Pacific Northwest. Today, we're spotlighting Amanda, a multifaceted artist with a deep love for the outdoors, film photography, and pottery.
Amanda lives in Bellingham, Washington, and her days are filled with shooting film photography, hiking and backpacking in the Cascades, kayaking in the San Juans, and diving into new creative projects. Alongside her faithful dog, Huxley, Amanda embodies the adventurous spirit of the region.
Amanda's relationship with Slow Loris began at 18 when she bought her first tank top featuring a Westfalia van. Drawn to our designs and support for local artists, she has been a devoted fan ever since.
Amanda's pottery journey started in 2018 with a ceramics class at a community college in Anacortes. She instantly fell in love with the process and, two years ago, purchased her own pottery wheel to continue creating. Her approach to pottery is playful and intuitive, often inspired by the textures and colors of the natural world around her. Growing up in the San Juan Islands and the North Cascades, these landscapes profoundly influence her work.
"I'm particularly proud of the flower vases I've been making recently," Amanda shares. "There's something deeply satisfying about creating vessels that showcase the natural beauty of flowers."
For Amanda, summer in the Pacific Northwest is nothing short of paradise. She's looking forward to kayak camping in the San Juans, backpacking in the North Cascades, enjoying picnics, bay swims, bike rides, and spending plenty of time outdoors working on creative projects. "Summer fills me with energy and childhood nostalgia," she says. She fell in love with film photography in 2014, capturing moments spent playing outside with friends, traveling abroad, and exploring the mountains and islands she grew up in.
Amanda has been featured in modeling campaigns focusing on studio, lifestyle, and outdoor recreation. She has worked with renowned brands such as Marmot, Apse Adorn, YETI, Kuhl, Zenbivy, UCO gear, Blundstone, Cutwater Spirits, Outback Trading Co, and Eddie Bauer. As a 200-hour certified yoga instructor, she has trained with incredible yoga teachers and meditation guides from the U.S., Canada, Italy, and India. Her focus on full-body wellness and holistic health creates a safe and fun space for everyone to experience the power of yoga.
Amanda is embarking on an educational journey to become a registered holistic dietitian and nutritionist, starting at Bastyr University in Fall 2024. She aims to connect the emotional and medicinal properties of food into our lives in a safe, educated way, guided by a full-body perspective.
We're thrilled to share Amanda's story and her incredible contributions to the PNW's artistic community. Her dedication to her craft and passion for the natural world resonate deeply with our values at Slow Loris. Keep an eye out for more of her work and adventures as she continues to inspire us all.
